Publisher`s description - Severe Weather Threat
A program for weather enthusiasts and those interested in Severe Weather. This program will display several key weather indices taken from upper air observations and display a radar image of the area to help you determine how likely severe weather is in your area. The values will change color depending upon how well the numbers correlate to severe weather. Severe weather requires ample moisture, instability, vertical wind shear and a lifting mechanism (daytime heating (max temp greater than convective temp), storm front, dry line for example. Some values are for information only, like storm motion. In general, high surface & 850mb dew points, moderate CIN/CAP, high CAPE, LI, SWEAT values coupled with strong shear are indicative of severe storms and tornadoes. *Note* Keep in mind just because wind shear may be favorable for tornado formation, it doesn't mean it will happen, especially if the other ingredients aren't there. Same with thunderstorms or hail. Observations are updated twice daily, usually around 10AM & 10PM EST. Have fun!
